The National Ambulance Training School was established in 1986 to deliver training to Ambulance Personnel. Since then, the client base has extended to include a range of care providers including Ambulance Services, and a number of other students including Coastguard personnel, members of Defence Forces, Gardai, Health Care Professionals and members of Voluntary Organisations.

The range of training courses includes patient care programmes, leadership courses, tutor development, major incident planning and preparation and driving.  NASC delivers its paramedic and advanced paramedic programmes in affiliation with University College Dublin.

The National Ambulance Training Board which was the governing body for the National Ambulance Training School was reorganised following the Report of the Review Group on the Ambulance Service in 1993.  The School was integrated in 2005 into the newly formed HSE National Ambulance Service and was re-titled as 'The National Ambulance Service College'
